Rapid Mentoring

James Berg

The Rapid Mentorship will offer a selected group of veteran volunteers providing mentorship to junior and prospective researchers. Juniors, in pairs or small groups, will have approximately 15 minutes to ask questions of the mentors. A small sample of example questions will be provided for those pairings that are shy or don’t have specific questions.

Mentors will be recruited by James Berg, from across both industry and academic sources.

James Berg

James Berg has worked at EA Vancouver for a decade, starting on NHL 09 on the Playstation 2. He’s now a Senior Games User Researcher, having accidentally specialized in qualitative research on new and non-iterative IP. He’s been the research lead on titles such as Anthem, Dragon Age: Inquisition, FIFA Ultimate Team, SSX, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, NHL, and UFC, contributed to various other projects, as well as having done some research in web and mobile.

He’s passionate about ensuring as many players as possible can learn and enjoy games, whether that means improving onboarding and tutorialization, or addressing usability concerns.

He’s proud to have been an active organizer for and presenter at the #gamesUR Summit for many years, as well as acting as GURSIG Steering Committee Chair for 2016-17.
